A general surgery specialist doctor, named as Abd Mfaddi Ahmad al Abd, born in 1985, from al Salehiya village in north of the governorate, who worked at al Kendi Hospital in al Tayyana village in the east of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on January 11, 2022, near his workplace in the hospital in the village which is controlled by Syrian Democratic Forces. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.
We condemn all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians, and call on the governing forces in every area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
