A man, named as Ahmad Ali al Ali, from Tal Meshhen village which is administratively a part of al Ya’rubiya town in the northeastern suburbs of Hasaka governorate, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces in 2019. Since then, he has been classified as forcibly disappeared, with the SDF denying his arrest and preventing anyone, even a lawyer, from visiting him. On January 3, 2022, an officer of SDF informed his family of his death in a detention center in Hasaka governorate. SNHR’s data from numerous sources confirms that he was in good health at the time of his arrest, indicating that he probably died due to torture and lack of health care.
We can confirm that at least 3,817 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing.
SNHR notes that approximately 71 Syrian citizens have died due to torture in SDF detention center.
