Six civilians working in al Kherata oil field located in the badiya (desert area) of the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate were killed on December 2, 2021, by unidentified gunmen who opened fire on a car carrying them in the badiya, which is controlled by Syrian regime forces. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.
We condemn all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians, and call on the governing forces in every area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
