At least five civilians were killed while approximately ten others were injured when a car bomb of unknown source exploded in the area between Dawwar Kawa and Dawwar al Qabban at the entrance of al Hal Market in the center of Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate on October 11, 2021. SNHR notes that the location where the blast took place is a vital, densely populated area.
Afrin city is controlled by the Syrian National Army while SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.
SNHR condemns all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians, and calls on the governing forces in every area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
