Two men from al Yadouda village in the west of Daraa governorate, named as Qusai Hamdi al Zu’bi and Muhammad al Zubani, were arrested on September 13, 2021, by Syrian regime forces personnel while they were trying to travel from al Yadouda village to Tafas city in the western suburbs of Daraa governorate, despite both being among those who agreed on a settlement previously, and taken to an undisclosed location. The arrest was accompanied by the regime forces firing gunshots at both men.
SNHR notes that no members of the detainees’ families have been informed of their arrests or whereabouts, with their phones being confiscated, preventing them from contacting their families or lawyers. SNHR fears that they will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’, like approximately 85 percent of all detained persons in Syria.
SNHR can confirm that at least 131,469 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the regime’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing, given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
