A 35-year-old man, named as Ali al Ahmad, who was originally from Hasaka city and had been living in Ras al Ein city in the northwestern suburbs of Hasaka governorate, was arrested by the Syrian National Army personnel on July 28, 2021, during a raid on his residence in Ras al Ein city and taken to one of the SNA’s detention centers in the city. On August 4, 2021, the SNA informed his family of his death and handed his body over to his family from the National Hospital in the city. SNHR data from numerous sources confirms that he was in good health at the time of his arrest, indicating that he probably died due to torture and lack of health care.
SNHR can confirm that at least 3,582 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in detention centers run by factions of the Armed Opposition, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing.
SNHR notes that at least 47 Syrian citizens have died due to torture in the Armed Opposition’s detention center.
