To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Corrective Movement (the name given by the Syrian regime to the military coup in which Hafez al-Assad seized power in 1970), Syrian regime forces held a military parade in the presence of Syrian and Russian officials and military leaders at the headquarters of the 17th Infantry Division in Deir Ez-Zour, which is based in the Baath camp. One of photos published by pro-Syrian regime accounts on November 16, 2020, shows the Syrian regime forces using tents bearing the logo of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees which are specified for the use of refugees. SNHR has already emphasized in several previous reports the need to prevent the Syrian regime from exploiting the aid provided by international organizations which it distributes to its beneficiaries, and warned that the desire of Russia and the Syrian regime to stop cross-border aid in order to plunder and seize control of as much of this aid as possible is intended to use the aid to serve their own interests rather than distributing it according to the neediest areas and the worst-affected people. We have also warned of the deterioration of the living conditions in the Syrian Jazira region, following the Russian-Chinese veto against the renewal of Security Council Resolution No. 2165 on allowing cross-border aid to enter, which caused the closure of the Ya’rubiya crossing.
