The bodies of a man named Mahmoud Omar al Za’tour and his wife, from Kafranbel city in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate, were discovered by locals on farmland outside Barisha village in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate on October 10, 2020, bearing gunshot wounds. The area is under the joint control of factions of the Armed Opposition and Hay’at Tahrir al Sham, with SNHR so far unable to identify the party responsible for the killing up to the time of writing.
Although the controlling forces bear responsibility for revealing the perpetrator’s identity, they have not launched any investigation, which increases the suspicion of their involvement in the killings.
