Seven-year-old Malek Shadi Abu Zreiq, and another child, Ahmad Basem Abu Zreiq, both from the same family, were killed, while other civilians were injured when an IED of unknown origin exploded while several cars were passing by in Da’el city in the northern suburbs of Daraa governorate on August 24. The explosion was followed by gunfire from unknown sources targeting cars in the same vicinity. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses and survivors to obtain more details of the incident.
SNHR condemns all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians in a brutal and indiscriminate manner, and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
