An explosion of an undetermined type and origin took place in the al Mazout fuel market in al Bab city in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate on June 16, 2020, severely damaging the market’s facilities and burning a number of tanker trucks loaded with oil. Additionally, a Civil Defense worker Aref Barakat sustained burns and suffered the effects of suffocation. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.

SNHR condemns all explosions which target and kill civilians in a brutal and indiscriminate manner, and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
