The northwestern region of Syria and the IDP camps witnessed a significant drop in temperatures overnight, leading to ice forming on the large pools of rainwater between the tents on the night of January 18, 2022. SNHR confirms that these conditions subject the IDPs, especially the most vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly, to even greater suffering, as well as contributing to the further deterioration of humanitarian conditions in the camps.
We call on donor countries and Arab and international relief organizations to provide emergency grants to meet the needs of families living in the camps as soon as possible and to provide the camp administrations with heat-proof materials and heating equipment.

The picture shows the layer of ice formed due to the overnight frost near the IDPs’ tents in a camp in Kafr Yahmoul village, north of Idlib governorate.
