An unidentified suicide bomber, who we believe was wearing an explosive belt, blew up himself in front of the bus station in al Bab city in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate on January 13, 2022. The blast caused the death of the suicide bomber and the injury of a child, in addition to causing damage of various degrees to the explosion site. SNHR notes that minutes after the blast, another suicide bombing took place in Afrin city in the northern suburbs of the governorate, causing the death of the suicide bomber and the injury of three other people. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses and survivors to obtain more details of the incident.
We condemn all explosions of this nature which target and kill civilians, and call on the governing forces in every area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
