A girl from al Qameshli city in the northeastern suburbs of Hasaka governorate, named as Simaf Muhammad Saleh al Othman, born in 2008, was kidnapped on August 9, 2021, by Syrian Democratic Forces’ personnel for conscription while she was heading from her family’s home in al Arman neighborhood to an education institution in the city and taken to one of the group’s conscription camps in the city.
SNHR notes that no member of the girl’s family was informed of her arrest and that she was prevented from contacting her family, who are not allowed to visit her. SNHR fears that she will be forced to engage directly and indirectly in military operations, and confirms that around 113 children are still detained for forced conscription in the SDF’s camps.
