Two students at an institution for Memorizing the Holy Quran in Mus’ab Bin Omair Mosque in al Tawwama village, named as Muhammad Mustafa and Ali Shaker, who are originally from the village in the western suburbs of Aleppo governorate, were arrested on May 31, 2021, by Hay’at Tahrir al Sham personnel while they were in the mosque in the village, with both accused of not praying al Asr prayer with a group of other worshippers and taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that neither of the detainees’ family members were informed of their arrests, with their phones being confiscated, preventing them from contacting their families. SNHR fears that they will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’ like approximately 85 percent of the individuals detained in Syria.
SNHR can confirm that at least 2,246 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in HTS detention centers.
