A 40-year-old man, named as Muhammad Khalil al Ajlan, from Kdeiran village in the western suburbs of Raqqa governorate, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces’ personnel in 2018. Since then, he has been classified as forcibly disappeared, with the SDF preventing anyone, even a lawyer, from visiting him or revealing his whereabouts. On April 13, 2021, his body was handed over to his family bearing signs of torture inflicted in the SDF’s al Sena’a Prison in Hasaka city.
SNHR notes that about 3,784 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing, particularly given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
We also note that 61 Syrian citizens have died due to torture in SDF’s detention center.
