The brothers Abdul Salam and Taha Ahmad al Khleif, from al Haswiya al Saghira village which is administratively a part of Tal Hmeis town in the northeastern suburbs of Hasaka governorate, were arrested on October 3, 2020, by Syrian Democratic Forces during a raid on their home in the village and taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that no member of the brothers’ family was informed of their arrest, with their phones were taken from them, preventing them from contacting their family. SNHR fears that they will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’ like approximately 85 percent of all those detained in Syria.
SNHR notes that approximately 3,337 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
