A woman named as Mariam Afdik Sheikhou, from Qasem village which is administratively a part of Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, was arrested by Syrian National Army personnel on September 18, 2020, and taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that no members of Mariam’s family have been informed of her arrest, with the phone being confiscated, preventing her from contacting her family. SNHR fears that she will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’, like approximately 85 percent of all detained persons.
SNHR can confirm that at least 3,244 people are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the Armed Opposition’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
