Two brothers, Tareq and Seddiq Muhammad al Khalaf, from al Baghouz town in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, were arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces on September 8 during a raid on their home in the town and taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that no member of the brothers’ family was informed of their arrest, and their phones were taken from them, preventing them from contacting their family. SNHR fears that they will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’ like approximately 85 percent of all those detained in Syria.
SNHR notes that approximately 3,337 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing, particularly given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
