n eight-year-old girl from al Mhawesh village in the eastern suburbs of Raqqa governorate, named as Fatimah al Mhawesh, had been reported as being lost from the village on August 16, 2020. On August 19, 2020, her body was discovered by locals in the Badiya (open desert area) around al Mhawesh village bearing signs of burns and bruises. The area is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces. SNHR has been unable to identify the party responsible for the girl’s death up to the time of writing. Although the controlling forces bear responsibility for revealing the perpetrator’s identity, they have not launched any investigation, which increases the suspicion of their involvement in the killing of the child.
