A former ISIS member named as Muhammad Mahmoud Al-Ahmad was arrested in 2018 by Syrian Democratic Forces personnel in al Baghouz town in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate. Muhammad, a Civil Engineering graduate with a degree from Damascus University, was originally from Hammadi Omar village, which is administratively a part of Eqerbat town in the eastern suburbs of Hama governorate.  On August 3, 2020, SNHR received information confirming that he had died in SDF custody. Our data from numerous sources confirms that he was in good health at the time of his arrest, indicating that he probably died due to torture.
SNHR notes that approximately 3,337 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing.
