A 43-year-old man from Hawija Abdi village which is administratively a part of Tal Abyad city in the northern suburbs of Raqqa governorate, named as Fares Karraf al Hamidi, was arrested by members of Military Police affiliated with the Syrian National Army on June 1, 2020, after he was called to a detention center in the city. Since then, he has been classified as forcibly disappeared, with the Syrian National Army preventing anyone, even a lawyer, from visiting him or revealing his whereabouts. On August 1, 2020, his body was handed over to his family bearing signs of torture sustained inside their detention center in the city.
SNHR notes that about 3,244 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the armed opposition’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing.
