On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, a man, identified as Fayez Mohammad al-Rajab ‘al-Dandashi’ from Bab Hud neighborhood in Homs, was shot and killed, and his niece, from the same neighborhood, was shot and injured by unidentified gunmen in Masaken al-Shurta Street near al-Walid Subdistrict crossroad in Homs city. As of this writing, the perpetrators have not been identified. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.
According to the information gathered by the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR), the two were shot by unidentified gunmen from a passing motorbike near their house, which led to Fayez’s death, while both were hit with multiple gunshots. Local sources also reported that General Security officers arrived at the scene following the crime and started investigating and gathering information. SNHR is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR calls on the transitional government to uphold its legal and security responsibilities in protecting civilians and ensuring their safety, and to launch a transparent and independent investigation into the incident with the aim of identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice. This would help curb the recurrence of such crimes and prevent the spread of impunity.
SNHR must also stress that achieving stability in Syria requires reinforcing the rule of law and strengthening efforts toward justice and accountability to ensure that perpetrators of violations do not escape punishment and to move forward in building a state that respects human rights.
