A man, identified as 60-year-old Mohammad al-Satam, from al-Hari village in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was killed on March 2, 2025, by the explosion of a landmine of unidentified source while herding sheep in the badiya ‘desert area’ of al-Boukamal city in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR calls on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities in protecting civilians in their areas and identify the locations of landmines and remove them. We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
