Two siblings, identified as seven-year-old Ahmad and six-year-old Muath Mhidi al-Saleh, were killed on February 16, 2025, by a war remnant of unidentified source that exploded when the two started a fire in the remnants of an agricultural land in Hemar al-Ali village in western rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that war remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on cluster munitions and other war remnants, calling for securing equipment to help local residents to safely dispose of the various explosive remnants.
