A man, identified as Mohammad Hleil al-Karim from al-Hmedan village, administratively a part of Ein Eisa subdistrict in northern rural Raqqa governorate, was killed on February 5, 2025, by a landmine of unidentified source that exploded under his car in the badiya ‘desert area’ of Hrebsha district in southern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR calls on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities in protecting civilians in their areas and identify the locations of landmines and remove them. We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
