On February 1, 2025, a man, identified as Ali Hassoun al-Shahrha from al-Mebten village in eastern rural Hama governorate, was killed, with two others injured, by the explosion of a landmine of unidentified source while they were collecting desert truffles in al-Fasda village in eastern rural Homs governorate. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR calls on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities in protecting civilians in their areas and identify the locations of landmines and remove them. We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
