Two siblings, identified as Ghaddar and Zakariya Mubarak al-Khleif al-Shebli from al-Kashma village in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate, were killed on January 13, 2025, by the explosion of a landmine of unidentified source in the badiya ‘desert area’ of al-Kashma village. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR calls on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities in protecting civilians in their areas and identify the locations of landmines and remove them. We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
