On December 22, 2024, an armed opposition/Syrian National Army (SNA) artillery detachment fired a shell at a house in al-Ja’da village in the rural areas of Manbij city in eastern rural Aleppo governorate, killing one local woman, identified as 35-year-old Sawsan Khalaf, and her daughter, identified as 12-year-old Nasim Khalaf. The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this attack, armed opposition factions/SNA has unequivocally violated UN Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2254, which prohibit indiscriminate attacks.
Armed opposition factions/SNA has also violated the rules of international humanitarian law on distinguishing between civilians and fighters, which only aims to spread panic among civilians.
