On November 17, 2024, the body of a man, identified as Bassel al-Jaydouri from al-Sanamayn city in northern rural Daraa governorate was found bearing gunshot wounds by locals near al-Refai Mosque in al-Sanamayn city. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Bassel had previously been an armed opposition fighter in Daraa before it was taken over by Syrian regime forces in July 2018, at which point he agreed to settle his security status with the regime. He had completely retired from military life since then, living as a civilian.
SNHR has not yet been able to identify Bassel’s killers as of this writing, with the controlling forces bearing responsibility for identifying his killers.
