Khalaf Ali al-Hussein al-Nasser from Mrat village in western Deir Ez-Zour governorate, lived in al-Azba town in northern Deir Ez-Zour governorate and was the head of the local council of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Mrat village in al-Azba town, was shot and killed on November 4, 2024, by unidentified gunmen in the market of al-Azba town. A woman and girl were also injured in the shooting. The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the investigation’s findings known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
