On August 7, 2024, a shell of unidentified source struck a house in Theyban town in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate, killing one man, identified as Emad Jalal al-Hattab, and severely injuring his 18-year-old sister Amira. The incident took place amid clashes between Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Arab tribes fighters on the bank of the Euphrates River in the town. The area is under the control of the SDF.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify the party responsible for Emad’s death. The warring parties must take responsibility for identifying the killers.
We condemn these clashes and call for a permanent and immediate ceasefire, and for compensating the victims.
