Emad Adnan Shehab, an engineer from Deir Ez-Zour city who worked with the World Health Organization (WHO), was killed on March 26, 2024, in an aerial attack of as yet unidentified source. The attack targeted a house in the city’s al-Qosour neighborhood which was being used by pro-regime Iranian militias. Adnan, who was near the house at the time, was hit and killed by flying shrapnel. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

SNHR condemns all killings of civilians. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the investigation’s findings known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
