On March 22, 2024, three civilians were killed, and three others were injured, two of them critically, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify in al-Hamadin area of the Tareeq al-Sad neighborhood in Daraa city. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that one of the victims were identified as Yasser Khalil Falaha who had been previously a member of an armed opposition faction in Daraa, before regime forces regained control of the governorate in July 2018. Since then, however, he had reportedly briefly worked with a group affiliated with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), before working in the motorbike trade in the period leading up to his death.
SNHR is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the investigation’s findings known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
