On March 20, 2024, an improvised explosive device (IED) of as yet unidentified source, which was planted inside a cargo vehicle, exploded at a checkpoint erected by the Syrian National Army’s (SNA) civilian police at the entrance to al-Ra’ie city in northern rural Aleppo governorate. The vehicle’s driver, identified as Mohammad Abdul Rahman al-Mdawwer from Douma city in eastern Rural Damascus governorate, and three civilian police officers were injured in the bombing. The area is under the control of the SNA.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) condemns all bombings targeting civilians and vital facilities. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public.

Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
