A man, identified as Ali Hussein al-Heilani, was killed and his father injured on March 8, 2024, when they were shot from a passing motorbike by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify. The two men were inside a pharmacy in Abu Hardoub village in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate when they were shot. The area is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
It should be noted that Ali had worked with the SDF in the past.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the investigation’s findings known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
