A fisherman, identified as 35-year-old Khleif al-Haj Ibrahim, was shot and injured on February 23, 2024, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel who directly targeted him while he was on his boat in the Euphrates River on the pretext that he was nearing an SDF outpost on the riverbank near his home village of Kherbat Khaled in eastern Manbij city in eastern rural Aleppo governorate. Khaled, who sustained injuries to the abdomen and hand in the shooting, was transferred to Abu Qalqal Hospital in Manbij city. The area is under the control of the SDF.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this shooting, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
