On February 19, 2024, heavy rainfall caused damage to camps sheltering internally displaced persons (IDPs) in northern rural Idlib governorate. Rainwater seeped into tents and formed torrents and muddy pools around them, as well as causing the sides of some tents to collapse. A total of 30 IDPs’ tents were damaged in al-Maghsla Camp in Ram Hamdan village and the al-Hejra Camps on the outskirts of Harbnoush town. The area is under the control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that that these repeated occurrences further worsen the already dire living conditions of IDPs, exacerbating their existing severe hardships. We urge international relief organizations, including the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), to urgently respond to the camps’ basic needs, and provide the camps’ administration with additional tens for emergencies.
