A boy, identified as 13-year-old Nour al-Din Ayesh al-Ali, was shot dead on February 14, 2024, by personnel from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who were stationed at al-Shnan School in his home village of al-Shnan in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate. Nour al-Din was shot while he was working on a boat which ferries civilians between the regime-held al-Qouriya city and the SDF-held al-Shnan village, which are located on opposite banks of the Euphrates River in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The SDF personnel shot him while he was on board the boat as it crossed the river from al-Qouriya city to al-Shnan village.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the area where the incident took place is a diving line between regime-held areas and SDF-held areas.
It should be also noted that through this murder, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
