A man, identified as Ahmad al-Qaddour from Ma’aret al-Atareb in western rural Aleppo governorate, was shot dead on December 13, 2023, by Syrian National Army (SNA) gunmen on the road between Jendeires town and Afrin city in northwestern Aleppo governorate, while he was driving a car carrying firewood. Ahmad passed by an SNA checkpoint and refused to pay a fee to the military personnel there, resulting in a pursuit during which he was shot and killed.
The area is under the control of the SNA. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this act of killing, the SNA has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
