Two brothers, identified as Ahmad and Aghid al-Khatib, were shot dead on November 26, 2023, by personnel from the Syrian regime’s Military Intelligence Directorate in a raid on their house in their home city of al-Hrak in eastern rural Daraa governorate. Clashes broke out during the raid, involving light weapons, resulting in the two young men’s deaths.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that while the al-Khatib brothers had worked with armed opposition fighters in the city before the regime took control, they had settled their security situation in July 2018.
The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. It should be noted that through this act of killing, Syrian regime forces have once again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
