On June 2, 2023, Syrian regime artillery forces targeted agricultural lands in southern al-Atareb city in the western suburbs of Aleppo, causing a fire that spread rapidly across a wide area, burning approximately 10 hectares of agricultural crops and damaging the interests of the owners of the affected lands and properties. Civil Defense teams were not able to reach the area, which is under the joint control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), to extinguish the fire since it is close to the dividing lines with areas under the control of Syrian regime forces and, as such, can potentially be targeted at any time.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) condemns the bombardment of vital facilities and civilian properties by the Syrian regime and its allies, and their failure to distinguish between civilian and military targets, which invariably inflicts severe damage on civilians and their properties, thereby threatening the residents of these areas and their livelihoods and forcibly displacing them.
