On March 27, 2023, the decomposed bodies of six civilians, from al-Bghielia in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour, were found in Jabal al-Beshri area in the western badiya (desert area) of Deir Ez-Zour.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the six civilians were abducted on March 9, 2023, along with six others while they were collecting desert truffles in the Aby Hayya area, also in the western badiya of Deir Ez-Zour, and taken to an undisclosed.
The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. While SNHR has not yet been able to identify the party behind the murders, the fact that these controlling forces, who bear responsibility for identifying the killers, have failed to launch any investigation raises suspicions of their involvement.
