Abdul Hai Jehad Mohammad al-Rawi, a 10-year-old boy from Darnaj village in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was shot dead on January 30, 2023, by a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) member in al-Hawija area, located between the Euphrates River, Darnaj village, and al-Ashara city. The child was shot dead while he was delivering food to his family who were working on agricultural land in the area.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that al-Hawija is an unpopulated agricultural area, located on a dividing line between the territories controlled by the SDF and Syrian regime forces.

SNHR notes that through this act, the SDF has, once again, violated international human rights law. The perpetrator must be held accountable.
