Khadr Ali al-Dahwi, aged 43, and his 35-year-old wife Maha al-Hussein, who lived in al-Salhiya neighbourhood of Hasaka city, were killed along with their three children Habib, Mohammad, and Ali, on January 14, 2023, by an explosion whose source we have not yet been able to identify (but which we believe was caused by a landmine) while they were working moving stones in Dabai village, located near Jabal Kawkab in eastern Hasaka. The village is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this incident and make its details known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process to implement democracy under a concrete timetable.
