Ismail Ismail, an Iraqi national who had been living in Ein al-Hesan village, administratively affiliated with Ras al-Ein city in the northern suburbs of Hasaka governorate, where he was the representative of Iraqi refugees in the city, was shot dead on January 5, 2023, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify whilst in front of his house in Ein al-Hesan village, which is controlled by the Syrian National Army.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We condemn all acts of killing targeting civilians and call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this incident and make its results known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a true political transition process to implement democracy under a concrete timetable.
