On December 28, 2022, a landmine whose source we have not yet been able to identify exploded near a group of shepherds in Tal al-Salma, located to the east of Eqerbat town in the eastern suburbs of Hama governorate, killing four civilians and wounding three others.

The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians living in areas under their control, to disclose the locations of landmines, and to work on properly removing them.

We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from landmine explosions, with these mines continuing to pose a serious threat to the lives of residents, especially children, that will last for years.
