Assad Mahamid al-Omar, child aged 16, was killed on December 25, 2022, in an artillery shelling by the Syrian National Army (SNA). The shells landed near Assad’s house in Tanb village, which is administratively affiliated with Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that Tanb village is a dividing line between the SNA’s territories and those of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

SNHR stresses that, through this attack, SNA forces have once again categorically violated UN Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2254 which prohibit any further indiscriminate attacks, as well as violating the rules of international humanitarian law which stress the distinction between civilians and combatants, thereby spreading mass fear among civilians.
