Ahmad Abdul Hai al-Kurdi, from al-Kafeir village in western Hama governorate, was killed on December 8, 2022, by a landmine whose source we have not been yet able to identify in an agricultural land, where he was working, in al-Qarqour village in Sahl al-Ghab, western suburbs of Hama governorate. The village was under the joint control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians living in areas under their control, to disclose the locations of landmines, and to work on properly removing them.

We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from landmine explosions, with these mines continuing to pose a serious threat to the lives of residents, especially children, that will last for years.
