A landmine planted by an unidentified source exploded near seven civilians who had entered a minefield in Aleppo governorate on September 23, 2022, killing one woman, named as Ayoush al Taha, and severely wounding two other civilians.
The civilians had entered the minefield, beside Feikha Hamdan village near Beza’a city in eastern Aleppo governorate, in a desperate effort to escape from Syrian regime-controlled territory to Syrian National Army-controlled territory, with the area where the explosion took place being a frontline between the two forces.
SNHR is still trying to reach out to witnesses to the incident to obtain more details.
SNHR calls on the controlling forces to protect civilians in areas under their control, reveal the location of landmines, and remove them.
We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries due to explosions of landmines, which will continue to constitute a threat to civilians in these areas, especially children, for years to come.
