Ahmad Mutleq al Ahmad a civilian born in 1982 from the village of Kherbet Shehab near Khafsa town in Aleppo governorate’s eastern suburbs, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel on March 3, 2019 from his residence in Manbej city east of Aleppo governorate on accusations of working with the Syrian National Army. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment, and jailed in the SDF’s Raqqa City Central Prison.
In August 2022, the SDF informed Ahmad’s family that he had been transferred to a private hospital in Raqqa city after being infected with tuberculosis. None of his family members were allowed to visit him, or even to find out where he was being treated. On September 10, 2022, the SDF informed his family that he had died, releasing his body to his family the following day.
SNHR has information confirming Ahmad was in good health at the time of his arrest, which indicates that he died due to torture and medical negligence inside Raqqa City Central Prison.
SNHR confirms that over 4224 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared inside the Syrian Democratic Forces’ detention centers, and we have well-founded fears for their fate.
SNHR notes that 83 Syrian citizens have been documented as dying due to torture in the Syrian Democratic Forces detention centers.
